Yesterday,European Journal of Medical Researchpublished
its first open access articles with BioMed Central having transferred from I.
Holzapfel Verlag, where it began as a subscription journal in 1995. Edited
by Professor Deiter Häussinger of Düsseldorf University,European Journal of Medical Researchpublishes articles of international interest from all areas
of medical research, with a strong focus on clinical research. The journal has an Impact Factor
of 1.09

Amongst the first open access articles to
be published in the journal is a study fromFircke et al.
investigating differences in periodontal damage in HIV patients receiving antiretroviral
